A Close up of my technique.
I wanted to branch out from circles so i experimented with this cameo silhouette, i drew the outline on to a tough textile, i then machine embroidered the whole thing, i almost think it creates a badge effect.
I feel this sample is more refined then the previous ones, as it has more detail to it and i have mixed different elements of free machine embroidery and reverse applique and i love the effect.
I love this effect of this sample i used the princess pleater with vintage lace, chiffon and liberty fabric, it creates a lovely ruching effect which would be great for a cuff or a collar.
Another sample mixing techniques.
After finding loads of my machine embroidery thread being wasted after it was cut of from the bobbin while i was sewing, i thought it would be good to collect it all together and would create a great back drop beneath machine embroidery.
This was one of my first technical samples i created i placed bright colour ribbon cut offs beneath chiffon with the odd colour fabric circle, i then machine embroidered over the top, with the odd circle being decorated with thick coral yarn.
With this sample i layered stiff ribbon with art deco style ribbon and bold fabric circles with the added extra of loose threads before placing the chiffon over the top and machine embroidering into it.
This sample is one of my favourites i love the doll style look i layered antique ribbon and the odd fabric circle using lace and then placed a layer of chiffon over the top, and then drew a silhouette of a women with my machine.
I used the princess pleater for this sample and added pearl beads to give a doll house effect.
My final garment front, with a fabric layered collar with a machine embroidered circles placed within and a thick stitch around the outside with a ruched chiffon base.
Some close up images of my final garment front.
For this project we were required to create a garment front suitable for the current market and industry, we were given and array of themes such as great Scot, traveller and doll house, one theme that really stood out to me was dollhouse. we were asked to hand in a file of experimental samples, technical sample board, a research file and a final garment front. One of the elements of this project was to create technical samples displaying a excellent range of techniques and processes, i am a massive fan of machine embroidery and it is truly were my talent lies. So i really enjoyed producing the above samples.
